There are a number of ways in which you can work with us on research.

Research and knowledge exchange

If you have an idea for a research project which would involve working with us and you know who to contact, please contact the department ideally a minimum of 8 weeks before your grant deadline.

If you aren't sure who to contact about your idea, please contact our Research and Academic Liaison Manager.

Postgraduate research

Prospective PhD students interested in studying a PhD involving our collections are advised to contact their prospective Higher Education Institution in the first instance and ask that they get in touch with a relevant member of staff.

For existing postgraduate researchers, there are two main ways to collaborate with us:

3-6 month research projects

Please contact the department you are most interested in working with to see whether this aligns with current priorities.

These opportunities are unfunded but we may be able to support your application to external funding bodies such as research council internships schemes where aims align.

Visitor research

If you are a postgraduate researcher wishing to undertake visitor research, please note we have limited opportunities to be able to accommodate and will require confirmation of ethics approval from your University. Please contact the Research and Academic Liaison manager for further information.

Student placements

If you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student looking for a placement please note that we receive more enquiries than we have resources to support. We prioritise student placements where the placement is an integral part of the course and where the course leader has been in contact with the prospective museum host.
