Scottish silversmith Hamish Dobbie was commissioned by the P&O Makower Trust to create a piece for National Museums Scotland. Dobbie is part of a new generation of makers who combine traditional hand skills with innovative technologies.

The P&O Makower Trust has been supporting the silversmithing sector since 1974. Helping to introduce a wider audience to this age-old craft. And supporting some of the most renowned names within the craft from the very start of their careers through this award.

About the artist

Scottish silversmith Hamish Dobbie graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2013, where he studied Silversmithing and Jewellery Design. Since then he has exhibited his work across the UK and internationally. In 2015, he became the first recipient of the P&O Makower Trust award for National Museums Scotland.

We visited Dobbie in his studio to understand his inspiration, process, and techniques.
