About Adult Workshops: Willow Crafting

Choose a half-day workshop to create your own willow platter, or explore a wider variety of techniques and make a willow basket in a full-day workshop.  

Led by artist and forager Max Johnson, all workshops are suitable for beginners. With materials and equipment provided, you will learn willow weaving techniques that have been used in Scotland and throughout Europe for hundreds of years.  

All tickets include museum admission on the day. 

Water, tea and coffee will be provided at the start of each workshop.

  • All materials and equipment will be provided.  
  • The Platter Making Workshop lasts around 2 hours and 15 minutes. 
  • The Basket Making Workshop lasts 5 hours, with a 1-hour break for lunch. Lunch is not provided, however participants are welcome to visit the museum café or bring a picnic to eat outdoors.

Accessibility and facilities

We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit. 

Toilets

Toilets are available in the museum, including adapted toilets, baby changing facilities and an adult changing bench.   

Outdoor paths

Paths leading to the farm buildings provide firm but rough surfaces for pushchairs. However, the distance is approximately half a mile and in places, the path is relatively steep. Seating is provided at regular intervals.

Parking

There are disabled parking spaces at the main museum building, and a limited number of disabled parking spaces at the farm. If you require a disabled parking space at the farm please speak to staff when you arrive in the Museum building.

Wheelchair access

The ground floor, but not the first floor, of the farmhouse is accessible by wheelchair.

Assistance dogs

Guide dogs, hearing dogs and other recognised assistance dogs are admitted.
