About Member Event: From Rocks to Life
Join us for this special Member event hosted by Dr Nick Fraser, Keeper of Natural Sciences, and discover how the evolution of minerals and biology shaped life on earth today.
Dr Rachel Walcott, Principal Curator of Earth Systems, will tell the story of ‘rock to life’ in five main parts. Starting from the formation of our planet, through the Great Oxidation Event and the Huronian ice age, to the ways tectonics affect life diversity today and how life on earth might change during the Anthropocene extinction.
On the night, you will also be able to see a special specimen display, including examples of minerals and rocks formed in the various stages discussed by Nick and Rachel.
During the event you will have a chance to ask your questions to our curators.
On the day
- Entry to this event is via the Lothian St entrance from 18:00, not the Main Entrance on Chambers St.
