About Multisensory Museum Walk: Scotland Galleries

Join dance artist Alena Ageeva to experience our Scottish archaeology and art collections in a new and creative way using movement, touch, sound, and smell.

This creative exploration of the Scotland Galleries uses movement and your senses to find new connections with some of our most important and beautiful objects.

You will be guided through the galleries by dance artist Alena Ageeva. Moving and engaging at your own pace, you will hear stories and sounds connected with some of the objects on display. Experiencing smell and touch, you will immerse yourself in the museum in a new and mindful way.

Alena Ageeva is a freelance dance and physical theatre artist based in Edinburgh. She has been focusing on site-specific, inclusive, and interactive dance performances since 2020. Alena has performed her multi-sensory dance walks at venues across Europe.

Part of Art History Festival 2024 and Scottish Archaeology Month.

Event information

The tour will be in a small group and is suitable for participants with any level of movement or dance experience. Please wear clothing and shoes that allow you to move freely.
The route will be accessible by lift.
The route will be accessible to participants using wheelchairs or those with mobility issues.
Photography will take place on the 14:30 walk. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let staff on the day know.

Accessibility and facilities

We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit. 

Museum entrances

There is level access to the Museum via the main doors to the Entrance Hall on Chambers Street and the Tower entrance at the corner of Chambers Street and George IV Bridge.

Lifts

Lifts are available to all floors of the museum.

Toilets

There are toilets on most levels of the museum, including accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. There is a Changing Places (U) toilet in the Entrance Hall on Level 0. 

Borrow a wheelchair

Wheelchairs are available for loan at no charge. On arrival, ask about availability at the Information Desk. Please note wheelchairs cannot be booked in advance.

Small mobility scooters are permitted inside the museum.

Assistance dogs

Guide dogs, hearing dogs and other recognised assistance dogs are admitted.
