About Relaxed Curiosity Club

These relaxed sessions are designed for children with additional support needs and their families.

Get inspired through games, activities and an optional gallery visit. Explore some of the fascinating facts and stories behind our collection.

We aim to create a fun, friendly, and relaxed environment for ASN children to explore our Curiosity Club activities with the reassurance of their parents/carers being with them or nearby.

Who are the sessions for?

  • Relaxed Curiosity Club sessions are particularly aimed at children with additional support needs, neurodivergent children, or children with disabilities.
  • Content is aimed at ages 7–11 but this is not a set age-range and we welcome all children and families who think they might enjoy these sessions.
  • Parents/carers (up to two per participating child) are invited to stay and either join in with the activities or relax nearby.
  • Children with additional support needs or neurodivergent children who feel comfortable participating in our standard Curiosity Club sessions without parents/carers present are welcome to do so. The relaxed sessions are for those who prefer a shorter, more supported session with reduced numbers and the option of parents/carers remaining to help.

During the sessions

  • Each session will have a reduced capacity and a slightly slower pace to allow more time to enjoy the activities.
  • A Quiet Space will be set up in a nearby area that can be used whenever is needed during the session.
  • We can offer water or juice and a small snack. You are also welcome to bring your own with you. We kindly ask that no nuts or food containing nuts are brought into the Learning Centre.
  • The sessions will take place in our Learning Centre on Level 4,  but families are also welcome to join us for an optional visit to a relevant public gallery immediately after the session at 15:30.

You can make your way to the studios by walking through the Collecting Stories gallery. Walk up the staircase to Level 4. Turn right and the studios will be through the doors ahead of you.

There is also lift access via the lift next to the staircase. The dimensions of the lift are 137cm x 150cm (4ft 6in x 4ft 11in).

The door to each studio is not automatic and cannot be opened by a push pad. During an event it may already be open or a staff member will available to offer assistance.

There is significant space to use a wheelchair in each studio.

Wheelchairs can be borrowed from the information desks at the Entrance Hall and Tower Entrance. They cannot be booked in advance.

Seating

Tables and seating in the studios are not fixed.

Hearing induction loops

There is no induction loop in either studio.
