About Scotland Galleries highlights tour

Join our volunteer guide to explore Scotland’s stories through highlight objects in our Scotland Galleries.

Our free public guided tours are for adult individuals, couples and small groups. Each tour is limited to a maximum of 12 people. 

On the day 

  • Please sign up at the Information Desk in the Entrance Hall, Level 0, from one hour before the start of the tour to reserve your place.
  • Meet your volunteer guide ten minutes before the tour start time at the Guided Tour Meeting Point in the Entrance Hall, Level 0.

Accessibility and facilities

We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit. 

Museum entrances

There is level access to the Museum via the main doors to the Entrance Hall on Chambers Street and the Tower entrance at the corner of Chambers Street and George IV Bridge.  

Lifts

Lifts are available to all floors of the museum. 

Toilets

There are toilets on most levels of the museum, including accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. There is a Changing Places (U) toilet in the Entrance Hall on Level 0. 

Borrow a wheelchair

Wheelchairs are available for loan at no charge. Please note wheelchairs cannot be booked in advance. On arrival, ask about availability at the Information Desk. Small mobility scooters are permitted inside the museum.

Assistance dogs

Guide dogs, hearing dogs and other recognised assistance dogs are admitted.
