
About Spring Explorers
Become a Spring Explorer this April at the National Museum of Rural Life.
Our Spring Explorers family activities are back, and this time they’re all about pollination! Get hands on with seeds, soil and planting. Sign up for storytelling, and visit musical light sculpture In Bloom in the Garden Detectives gallery.
Hands on activities
Times: 10:30-12:30 & 13:30-15:30, drop-in
Location: Learning Centre
Sunflower planting
Use our paper potting tools to make your own pot from newspaper and plant a sunflower seed to take home.
Make a Seed Bomb
Make your own seed bomb from mulched paper and wildflower seeds, then take it away to seed bomb a green space near you.
Soil exploration station
Learn all about soil and take part in some free play at the soil station. Using our mini trowels and forks, find out what’s inside our soil patch.
Storytelling
Times: 11:00-11:20, 12:30-12:50 & 14:00-14:30, sign up on the day
Location: Theatre
Join our storyteller for familiar rhymes, songs and lots of joining-in opportunities in one of three 20-minute sessions, perfect for under-fives and their adults.
Accessibility and facilities
Getting around the museum
The museum galleries and displays are accessible via lifts and a continuous ramp at a gradient of 1:16.

You can check our museum map or ask a member of our Visitor Experience team for the nearest lift.
Facilities
There are toilets on both floors of the museum. These include accessible toilets and baby changing facilities.
The toilets on the first floor are situated to the left of the information desk as you enter the museum. The toilets on the ground floor are next to the People gallery.
Seating
There is seating throughout the main museum building if you need a rest.
Lighting and noise
The lighting levels in some of the galleries are low for the protection of the exhibits.
