Physical description

Round earthenware dish with straight rim; cream-coloured ceramic body covered with fine quartz rich slip, painted inside and outside and covered with translucent colourless glaze; rim painted in dark brown; motifs outlined in dark blue and loosely filled with a diluted blue; interior decoration: a central peony flanked by four large leaves and the remaining space filled with short scrolls, set against a white background; the well with a wide band of alternating lions and peonies with leaves and short scrolls filling the space; this border set between single lines and separated from the centre by a thick blue circle; exterior: loose scrolls of flowers and leaves between two single lines; footring with a double line on exterior; pigment running on exterior; glaze slightly scratched on interior above central flower; bubbles inside and around footring; one chip on rim, no visible crazing.
