Getting to the museum

Museum entrance

When you arrive at the museum you must present your pre-booked timed entry ticket (either printed or on a smartphone) or provide your order number at the entrance barrier. 

Free entry for carers

Visitors with disabilities pay a concession for admission, with a carer accompanying for free.

Parking 

There is ample car parking at no charge at the museum. Accessible parking spaces are available throughout the site.

There may be a change of accessible parking locations and a parking fee at certain special events held at the National Museum of Flight. 


Accessibility around the museum

Getting around the airfield

The National Museum of Flight is a historic airfield and covers a large area. 

Visitors with mobility difficulties may wish to drive between the different hangars and buildings. Accessible parking spaces are available throughout the site. Please be aware that there is a 10mph speed limit on site. 

Information desk

Our information desk can be found in the Museum Shop next to the Concorde Experience. Our visitor experience staff can answer any questions you may have on arrival. 

Hearing induction loops

There are induction loops throughout the museum. They can be found at the:

• Ticket booth as you enter the site
• Information desk at the Museum Shop
• Concorde audio guide desk. 

Wheelchair access

Airfield

The site is wheelchair accessible and the hangars have ramped access. 

Boarding aircraft

Due to the historic nature of our collection, Concorde, Comet, Boeing 707, and BAC 1-11 can only be boarded by using stairs.

Borrow a wheelchair

Wheelchairs can be borrowed free of charge, but cannot be booked in advance. Please ask a member of staff at the information desk for availability on arrival.

Cloakroom and storage

There are a limited number of storage lockers in the Museum Shop. Tokens for the lockers can be picked up from staff at the information desk. 

Accessible toilets and changing facilities

There are accessible toilets and baby changing facilities around the site. They are available in the: 

  • Museum Shop
  • Concorde Experience
  • Fantastic Flight 

There are no Changing Places toilet on site. 

Check the museum map or ask a member of staff for the nearest toilets. 

Lifts

There is a lift up to the viewing platform in the Military Aviation hangar. 

Information on lift dimensions is available on the AccessAble website. 

Seating

Seating is available in most museum buildings. The parachute store does not have any seating options. 

There are no seating options or rest areas between buildings. However, there are picnic tables across the site. 

Breastfeeding

You are welcome to breastfeed anywhere in the museum. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available.

Visiting with dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum buildings and on the outdoor site. They must be on a lead. 

Non-assistance dogs are welcome outdoors, but must be on a lead. They are not allowed in the museum buildings or hangar spaces.

Visual story

The Museum has developed a visual story with pictures and information about what to expect when you visit.

Sensory backpacks

Sensory backpacks are available to borrow from the information desk at the Museum Shop. These contain lots of sensory aids, including: 

  • Sunglasses
  • Ear defenders
  • Sunflower lanyard
  • Fidget toy
  • Paper towels

You can check the full list of contents online before your visit. 

Please return the bag to the Museum Shop at the end of your visit.
