Object packing
How to soft wrap objects
Soft wrapping can be used to pack large or awkwardly shaped objects.
Objects packed in this way must be robust as the packing will obscure any weakness. Make sure to label the object to identify how it should be handled, carried and secured in transit.
In the video below, Collections Technician Maddy Moore demonstrates how to safely wrap items using soft materials.
Framed artworks
Soft wrapping is also a common way to pack framed artworks and there is a particular way of soft wrapping frames (as demonstrated in the above video) which is popular.
When transporting multiple framed works, ensure frames are placed front to front or back-to-back to ensure fixings do not come into contact with glazing or gilding.
