Laura began her career 30 years ago at the Science Museum London and remains an ardent supporter of museums, galleries and intangible cultural heritage. As a member of Heritage Crafts, she has a particular interest in how making and creating by hand contributes to positive health and a sense of wellbeing. Laura also supports others in their careers and is a qualified executive coach.
Laura is a Guild Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and received an Honorary Doctorate from Queen Margaret University in 2015. In 2016 she was awarded an MBE in recognition of her services to children with health conditions, having co-founded Teapot Trust SCIO in 2010, and worked tirelessly to create a national charity providing art therapy for children and young people. Laura stepped down from the Teapot Trust Board in 2022.
She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Society of Arts.
Laura became a Trustee of National Museums Scotland in October 2018 and her second term of appointment runs until September 2026.
